Samantha Willoughby, PsyM

Psychology Intern

Samantha Willoughby, PsyM is a doctoral intern at CBC, providing individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of clinical presentations. Samantha earned her Master’s Degree (PsyM) in School Psychology from Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP). She is currently in her final year of doctoral training at Rutgers GSAPP. Prior to attending Rutgers GSAPP, Samantha completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Marist University. Samantha is also a New Jersey Certified School Psychologist.

Prior to her doctoral internship, Samantha received intense training in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in a variety of settings across levels of care. Samantha utilizes strategies from trauma-informed care and leverages cultural humility in her work. As a clinical extern at NewYork Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health, Samantha delivered evidence-based treatments to children and adolescents hospitalized on the inpatient units for a variety of clinical disorders including mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.

Samantha also provided outpatient group services to adolescents and their families through NYP’s comprehensive DBT-A program. She also completed training at NYU Langone Health’s Child Study Center where Samantha delivered evidence-based treatments to children and adolescents in an outpatient setting. This included providing individual DBT services to adolescents. Samantha has also received training in a high school setting delivering Individualized Education Program (IEP)-mandated individual and group counseling, conducting psychoeducation evaluations, providing parent and teacher consultations, and monitoring student’s IEPs. Samantha has also received intensive training in diagnostic assessments and psychoeducational evaluations.

Samantha’s doctoral dissertation focuses on parental perceptions of their LGBTQIA+- identifying child’s school experiences, including the implementation of affirmative policies. Samantha is passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+-youth and their families in navigating systemic barriers to accessing care and other affirmative resources.
