Building Expertise in the Evidence-Based Standard
“My primary clinical and research focus has been the development and refinement of DBT for adolescents and families. Dr. Jill Rathus and I, along with Dr. Marsha Linehan, are the original developers of Comprehensive DBT for Adolescents and Families. Led by Dr. Rathus and I, this training pathway is designed to support faithful, program-adherent implementation in clinical and health system settings.”
–Dr. Alec Miller, Co-Founder and Co-Director, CBC
DBT Foundational for Adolescent and Families (On-Demand), for those practitioners joining an existing DBT team.
Developed and led by Drs. Alec Miller and Jill Rathus, this course reflects their work as the original treatment developers of the model. This course includes training segments conducted by several CBC DBT experts including Drs. Kelly Graling, Deborah Kanter, & Chad Brice. Other DBT experts included in this course are Drs. Melanie Harned, Erica Tan, and several other esteemed colleagues, along with teaching excerpts from Dr. Marsha Linehan.
It provides a structured, implementation-focused introduction to DBT as adapted for adolescents and caregivers, covering individual therapy, skills training groups, family sessions, consultation teams, inter-session skills coaching, as well as specialized parent sessions.
Designed for clinicians joining an existing DBT team, the program was created to address the clinical realities of treating adolescents experiencing suicidality, self-harm, and severe emotion dysregulation, particularly within specialized youth treatment settings, including hospitals, where developmentally informed adaptation, active family involvement, and system-aware implementation are essential.
Through detailed therapy demonstrations and case-based instruction, clinicians will see how to manage high-risk presentations while maintaining clinical adherence and program fidelity to the DBT Model.
