Megan Sommer-Carrera, PsyD (She/Her)

Director of Quality Improvement (QI) and Clinical Assessment

Dr. Megan Sommer-Carrera is the Director of QI, Clinical Assessment and Program Evaluation and a staff psychologist at CBC who provides individual, group, and family therapies to children, adolescents, adults, and families. She is intensively trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Megan has expertise in evidence-based treatments for anxiety, disruptive behavior disorders (e.g., ADHD, oppositional-defiant disorder), depression/mood disorders, self-harm/suicidal behaviors, and personality disorders. She specializes in childhood anxiety and is very experienced in working with younger adolescent (“tween”) DBT cases. Megan is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and has also received formal training in delivering Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) to parents of anxious children and teens.

Prior to completing her postdoctoral fellowship at CBC, Megan completed her APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at Andrus in White Plains, NY. At Andrus, Megan treated children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of internalizing and externalizing disorders in an outpatient setting. She conducted individual and family therapy, as well as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). While on internship, Megan also conducted psychoeducational assessments. Prior to internship, Megan completed an externship at CBC, as well as an externship at NYU Child Study Center where she treated children and adolescents with anxiety, mood, and behavior disorders using evidence-based treatments. In addition, Megan was a school psychology extern in the Cresskill Public School District in NJ where she conducted individual and group counseling and psychoeducational testing.

Megan earned her Master’s and Doctor of Psychology degrees in School-Child Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. She earned her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College at Columbia University and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Montclair State University. Megan is a member of American Psychological Association (APA).
