Voices Rising (Halloween 2023)

October (10/13)

9:00am - 2:00pm

  Intake | 914-385-1150, option 1 | intake@cbc-psychology.com

Voices Rising is an intensive group treatment for children aged 3-9 with Selective Mutism (SM). Using a classroom-like structure, the group provides many opportunities to speak and engage with other peers and adults.

This special Halloween-themed Voices Rising helps children reach speaking goals such as asking and answering questions, initiating conversations, speaking and presenting to larger groups and engaging in peer-to-peer interactions. Speaking goals are individualized to fit the needs of the child with developmentally appropriate and engaging activities designed to facilitate “brave talking.” Groups are divided by age and will engage in different activities that are geared specifically for that age group. One of the activities for the day is trick or treating, where the kids get a chance to put on costumes and go around the office to trick or treat. This helps them prepare for the actual celebrations in the community or school, which can often be anxiety provoking for kids

Our counselors are highly trained in adapted PCIT for SM, an evidence-based treatment. Parent training, an integral part of the program, will be virtual at times that are separate from the program hours.

In-person, multi-day session:
  • Dates: Friday, Oct. 13

  • Times: 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. (drop off)

  • Location: White Plains Office (1 North Broadway White Plains, NY, 10601)

  • Parent training will be virtual and will take place on a different day than the program

Eligibility

Children diagnosed with selective mutism (SM) between the ages of three and nine are invited to join Voices Rising. Programs are open to current, former and new patients who have been determined to be eligible by the clinical team. All children should be toilet-trained and able to both separate and also participate in the full day of the program without a nap.

For those who are new to CBC, a screening process will be required to determine clinical eligibility, which includes a parent- only appointment and then a child observation. Lead-in sessions are required and are discussed during the screening process. These sessions improve the likelihood of your child’s success in the program, allow your child to meet staff and other children and they are also considered a crucial part of Voices Rising. These sessions occur before the program starts and may be individual or in a group.

Spots cannot be held and registration will close when the program is full.
