Voices Rising is an intensive group treatment for children aged 4-10 with Selective Mutism (SM). Using a classroom-like structure, the group provides many opportunities to speak and engage with other peers and adults.
Speaking goals are individualized to fit the needs of the child, focusing on asking and answering questions, initiating conversations, speaking and presenting to larger groups, and engaging in peer-to-peer interactions. Each day consists of developmentally appropriate and engaging activities designed to facilitate “brave talking.” Groups are divided by age and will engage in different activities that are geared specifically for that age group. Other highlights of the program include classroom visitors, which add opportunities to practice speaking goals with new people and going out in the community.
Our counselors are highly trained in adapted PCIT for SM, an evidence-based treatment. Parent training, an integral part of the program, will be virtual and consist of 5 sessions, scheduled before, during and after the program week.
Children diagnosed with selective mutism (SM) between the ages of 4-10 are invited to join Voices Rising. Multi-day programs are open to current, former and new patients who have been determined to be eligible by the clinical team. All children should be toilet-trained and able to both separate and also participate in the full day of the program without a nap.
This program is open to existing patients and new participants. For those who are new to CBC, a screening process will be required to determine clinical eligibility, which includes a parent- only appointment and then a child observation. Lead-in sessions are required and are discussed during the screening process. These sessions improve the likelihood of your child’s success in the program, allow your child to meet staff and other children and they are also considered a crucial part of Voices Rising. These sessions occur before the program starts and may be individual or in a group.
Spots cannot be held and registration will close when the program is full.
