Predoctoral Externship in Evidence-Based Treatments

Cognitive and Behavioral Consultants (CBC) is an evidence-based clinical and training center composed of highly skilled clinicians, educators and researchers who specialize in CBT and DBT. We offer a collegial and intellectually stimulating environment and an outstanding opportunity to receive training and supervision in comprehensive CBT and DBT for a broad range of disorders with children, adolescents, and adults, and experience working with individual clients, groups, couples, and families. We also offer specialized training with certified trainers in evidence-based treatments including but not limited to Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and PCIT for Selective Mutism, Prolonged Exposure (PE), intensive OCD treatment, social anxiety group treatment, executive functioning coaching, intensive DBT program (SAGE Program) to meet the needs of young adults who require a higher level of care, and more.

Externs conduct individual, couples, family, and group therapy, and co-lead one or more CBT groups and/or DBT skills training groups with highly trained therapists/supervisors. In addition, externs have the opportunity to join our Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Team, Child and Adolescent Anxiety and Related Disorder (CAARD) Team, or SAGE Intensive Young Adult Team. This training experience includes a 5-day CBT Comprehensive and a 5-day DBT Foundational training, several hours of individual and group supervision per week, weekly DBT consultation team, monthly CBT consultation team, didactic seminars on CBT and DBT, disorder-specific case conferences, and a lecture series in which nationally and internationally renowned speakers are invited. Additionally, externs are often invited to participate in our intensive treatment programs for OCD or Selective Mutism.

CBC is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Trainees have the opportunity to be a part of the Anti-Racism Committee, which meets twice monthly with initiatives focusing on recruiting and retaining clients and clinicians of color, as well as ensuring the practice is providing culturally responsive training, supervision, and clinical care.
