Executive Functioning Skills Group – HS

At CBC’s Clinical and Wellness Centers we are committed to providing compassionate evidence – based treatment programs to address a wide range of emotional, behavioral, lifestyle management and personal development issues.

Our therapists practice leading edge treatments based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), with our primary goal to create positive and enduring change for all of our clients.

The Executive Functioning Skills Group For High School Students is designed to help students who struggle with managing their time, beginning tasks, completing assignments, procrastinating, creating a schedule, andorganizing their materials and who would like to improve these skills. The is group takes place in our White Plains office.

This group will run for 7 weeks and cover organization, planning, and task management skills. This weekly program teaches new skills and will also facilitate skills practice in between sessions, to ensure generalization to the outside environment, while providing the support of other adolescents who struggle with similar issues. Participants will be encouraged to discuss assignments and tasks they are currently struggling to complete, such as preparing for the SAT/ACT, studying for exams, breaking down projects, and balancing extra-curricular activities with academics. They will learn new skills while completing their own academic assignments.

The group is designed to help increase organization, planning, and self-management skills including:

• Creating and maintaining a calendar of assignments, responsibilities, and deadlines.
• Using reminders and creating to-do lists.
• Organizing papers, notebooks, and files.
• Learning how to get started on assignments/projects, as well as how to work on them through completion.
• Breaking down large projects into component parts with an action plan.
• Increasing focus and minimizing distractions.
• Strategies for reducing procrastination and improving self-control.
