Constance Dekis is a licensed clinical psychologist, a nationally certified school psychologist, a National Register Health Service Psychologist, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is the Coordinator of OCD and Related Disorders Programs at CBC and works full time with children, adolescents, adults, families, groups, and schools.
Dr. Dekis received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication from George Washington University where she graduated magna cum laude. She earned her masters and doctoral degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her doctoral dissertation explored resiliency in traumatized youth along with factors that lead to the development of PTSD.
Dr. Dekis completed her postdoctoral fellowship at a group practice in NYC where she specialized in the treatment for OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, anxiety and related disorders utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Prior to that Dr. Dekis completed her APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s hospital where she specialized in treating children, adolescents, and their families. Dr. Dekis worked in the outpatient department, inpatient department, Neurodevelopmental Testing Service, and the Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES), an adolescent day program that provides intensive therapy, substance treatment, and educational services. Dr. Dekis specialized in treating co-occurring disorders (substance and mental health) and ran adolescent DBT skills groups, substance use groups, and groups for internalizing and externalizing disorders. Prior to her pre-doctoral internship, Dr. Dekis trained at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, The Dean Hope Center, a group private practice specializing in CBT and DBT, and various high schools in New York City and New Jersey. Lastly, Dr. Dekis has completed mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) coursework based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s work. Dr. Dekis is a member of the Associate for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the New York City Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Association, and the American Psychology Association.
