Receive specialized training to deepen your understanding of CBT approaches for treating trauma and PTSD symptoms from CBC co-founder world-renowned master clinician and trainer Dr. Lata K. McGinn and Dr. Lauren Bonavitacola, licensed clinical psychologist and the Director of the Trauma Program at CBC.

Participate in this workshop in the comfort of your own home using a state-of-the-art virtual program.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This virtual 3-day workshop is for mental health professionals interested in pursuing specialized training to deepen their understanding of CBT approaches for treating trauma and PTSD symptoms, primarily Prolonged Exposure (PE). PE is considered a “gold standard” treatment for PTSD as recommended by the National Center for PTSD, the American Psychological Association (APA), and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Participants will receive eighteen (18) Continuing Education Credit Hours for NY Social Workers and all Psychologists and the required hours of training in CBT necessary to apply to become a Certified Diplomate through the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A-CBT).

When Is This Virtual Workshop?

This virtual workshop will take place on Monday, October 12 through October 14, 2020.

Daily Schedule: 9am-5pm with 10-minute breaks each hour with a one hour lunch break from 12-1:00pm.

What Will Be Taught In This Workshop?

  • A thorough understanding of trauma and PTSD assessment
  • Discussion of risk factors for who is more likely to experience post-traumatic
  • reactions and adapting treatment for the current climate
  • An introduction to the evidence-based treatments for PTSD and the various cognitive and behavioral treatment strategies used within them
  • An understanding of the Emotion Processing Theory and how this conceptualization guides Prolonged Exposure Therapy
  • In-depth understanding of the techniques specific to PE, including in vivo exposure, imaginal exposure, and cognitive processing
  • There will plenty of opportunities for experiential learning, video demonstrations as well as live demonstrations

Following this training, clinicians interested in getting certified in PE will have the opportunity to receive 30 minute case consultations plus a 45 minute case review in PE with Dr. Bonavitacola. Dr. Bonavitacola is a certified Prolonged Exposure consultant and is offering a discount to the first five (5) applicants interested in consultation towards certification. PE certification requires the completion of two cases in consultation with a certified PE consultant, including session review. Save the Date!! In Spring 2021, Dr. Elissa Brown of St. John's University, will be offering a training focused on treating children and adolescents with PTSD through Trauma-Focused CBT. This training will be offered as three, half-day virtual training days starting in Spring 2021 and will include group consultations towards certification in TF-CBT.
