New and updated to address navigating youth and adult mental health challenges in the face of many societal stressors, CBC’s virtual DBT 5-Day Foundational Training will return in Fall 2025!
Over the past five years, therapists have seen new and heightened mental health challenges surrounding social isolation, the increased use of technology and disruptions to daily routines. 40% of our youth report feeling alone, sad, hopeless, anxious and depressed. 25% report seriously considering suicide in the past year.
To address these issues, CBC is offering a five-day foundational training to help mental health professionals and students build and deepen their dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) knowledge, technique, and skills, with an adolescent-family emphasis. The workshop, led by Dr. Alec Miller and other CBC master clinicians, will provide an in-depth training in evidence-based techniques and strategies for mental health professionals to meet the increased mental health needs in the community today, as well as teach skills to engage clients using telehealth platforms. Teaching methods include didactics, modeling, videos, role-plays, and homework review.
Dates: Sept. 3, Sept. 5, Sept. 8, Sept. 9, Sept. 11, 2025
*Student scholarships are also available. To apply, please complete form here: DBT-F Student Scholarship Application Form
Participants will receive 35 Continuing Education credit hours (35 CE credits) for New York social workers and all psychologists. CBC also offers other CE credits throughout the year.
CBC has become the first—and only, to date—Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Program in New York State. The DBT- Linehan Board of Certification was formed to develop a comprehensive way to certify individual therapists in their competency to deliver DBT effectively and to certify programs that demonstrate their ability to deliver DBT programmatically with fidelity to the model as it has been researched.
Feedback from our 2024-25 DBT 5-Day Foundational participants:
"I really like Alec’s teaching style and his great depth of knowledge. Despite being an expert on this topic, he presents himself as very approachable and easygoing. I really like the clinical examples that he shared as they make his point very poignant and memorable.”
“The training helped validate my current knowledge as well as sharpening my skills within a DBT setting (i.e., target hierarchy, building commitment), as well as using psychoeducation for the biosocial theory.”
"Dr. Kanter's presentation on DBT skills groups and chain analysis was informative and engaging. I appreciated her validating and easy manner, expertise, and clear instruction style."
"Dr. Brice did a great job differentiating between classical and operant conditioning. These concepts can be confusing and he did it in such a way that helped me to understand behavior as it applies to patients."
“I LOVED watching the video of Alec teaching the skills to a group. It was so helpful to see someone else's style and a complete interaction.”
“Going forward, I will be better able to explain the function of mindfulness skills and how much they can improve clients' (and all of our) lives.
“I have a stronger understanding on how to teach skills and now will be able to use my own radical genuineness in providing examples of how I use skills.”
