Registration now open for a weekend workshop for parents of teens with communication and emotional Issues
Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants (CBC) will conduct a weekend workshop designed to help parents navigate difficulties that arise when supporting young adults with severe emotional swings. The weekend workshop was created in recognition of the unique developmental demands of this life stage, and with consideration of busy schedules. The workshop includes a specific focus on family interactions that may be triggered when young adults experience highly charged emotions and in turn, may worsen emotional dysregulation in both young adults and their parents.
This weekend workshop will be led by Dr. Suzanne Davino, Director of CBC’s Step-Up Programs and Dr. Elizabeth Ronan, Coordinator of CBT Programming at CBC on Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 5th from 9:30 a.m-4:30 p.m each day. Drs. Davino and Ronan will cover several topics including mindful parenting, increasing effective communication skills, coping with emotionally intense moments, and increasing effective responses and decreasing problematic behaviors. Each day parents will learn new skills, participate in illustrative exercises, receive consultation from clinicians on individualized situations, and connect with other parents experiencing similar challenges.
By the end of the weekend, parents will be able to:
- Use and model skills that will help all family members better control their emotions.
- Understand and address unhelpful behaviors exhibited by their young adult children
- Understand how family interactions and communication can be triggered by and worsen emotion dysregulation
- Learn helpful communication skills and strategies to improve emotional functioning and behaviors
- Promote a family environment that is based on mutual respect and understanding
“Managing the journey from adolescence to adulthood can be challenging for both parents and their children, said Dr. Alec L. Miller. “This parenting workshop will teach parents invaluable skills to improve their communication with their young adult children, and to effectively manage their child’s emotions and unhelpful behaviors.”
The workshop will be held at the CBC’s office located at 1 North Broadway in White Plains. Additional information regarding registration can be obtained by calling 914-385-1150 or sending an email to Dr. Michelle Greenberg, [email protected]
