The CBC-ED Continuing Education Program

CBC-ED is a continuing education program for health professionals, educators, and administrators. CBC provides a range of workshops and seminars in CBT and DBT and is intended for professionals at varying levels of knowledge and expertise.  These workshops and trainings are intended to build knowledge, skills, and competence and use a combination of lectures, discussions, role-plays, videos, and demonstrations. CE credits may be available for all psychologists and for social workers in NY State. CBC-ED also offers brief, time limited, and ongoing consultation for professionals who have a foundation in CBT or DBT and want to strengthen their skills and practice CBT and DBT adherently.

CBT Five Day Foundational

This intensive 5-day training program was created by Dr. Lata McGinn in response to multiple requests from clinicians who have begun learning cognitive behavior therapy through self-study or workshops and are looking to increase their ability to apply CBT concepts and strategies in their current practice. Clinicians also have the opportunity to receive ongoing consultation following the training. The CBT foundational qualifies you to apply to become a Certified Affiliate through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy by providing you with the 40 hours of required training specifically in cognitive therapy.

The training will cover a range of strategies, foundational to advanced, including:

• Creating a CBT case conceptualization with the client’s participation to produce meaningful treatment plans and guide therapeutic interventions

• Defining behavioral targets with precision and measuring treatment outcomes;

• Utilizing specific cognitive and behavioral strategies, including psycho-education, cognitive restructuring, behavioral experiments and additional self-management training

• Adapting CBT with couples, parents, and children/adolescents.

Who Can Attend

Professionals and students interested in building and deepening understanding of CBT principles in practice.

33 Continuing Education Credit Hours will be offered for this training to NY Social Workers and all Psychologists.

Understanding and Treating Trauma

CBC is excited to announce this new workshop which will cover CBT approaches for treating trauma and PTSD symptoms, including Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT for children and adolescents. These treatments are considered the “gold standard” for PTSD as recommended by the National Center for PTSD, the American Psychological Association (APA), and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS).

Workshop Objectives

This training will provide an understanding of PTSD symptoms and its assessment, a CBT framework for the conceptualization of difficulties arising post-trauma, risk factors for who is more likely to post-traumatic reactions, a description and experiential learning of various cognitive and behavioral treatment strategies used with trauma survivors, and an understanding of how these interventions are adapted for specialized populations such as children, individuals with complex trauma, and with high emotion dysregulation difficulties.

An emphasis will be placed on CBT case formulation-based treatment planning through an understanding of the mechanisms of action shown to elicit meaningful changes in this population.

Who Can Attend

Mental health professionals and students interested in getting specialized CBT for trauma and PTSD training. Some foundational CBT experience is recommended. 6 Continuing Education Credit Hours will be offered for this training to NY Social Workers and all Psychologists.

Comprehensive Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Training Objectives:

This workshop will offer clinicians with the knowledge and skills to effectively treat obsessive-compulsive disorder using a comprehensive cognitive behavioral therapy approach to maximize gains. Clinicians will learn how to diagnose, functionally target, assess, monitor and treat the heterogeneous symptoms that comprise OCD using psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, exposure, and response prevention.

Who can attend:

Professionals and students interested in building and deepening understanding of CBT principles in practice. The application is currently pending to provide 6 Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT and meets the continuing education criteria for Social Work Licensure renewal, Marriage & Family Therapist Licensure renewal, Professional Counselor Licensure renewal and Licensed Psychologist Licensure renewal. CBC is conditionally approved to offer CEs to NY Social Workers and will provide 6 CEs for this training.
